Getting Started In Plein Air
This class will get you up and running with a basic plein air practice! Explore the endless variety of abstracted and observed approaches to working within the tradition of plein air painting. Students will learn about basics of perspective drawing in order to use it to organize their compositions. We will start in pencil and branch out from there. Interesting and beautiful landscape work can be made in an endless variety of mediums and we will look at examples. We start simple to learn universal principles that can be translated to whatever mediums are at hand. There will be a variety of additional mediums to try and the student is welcome to bring whatever they are comfortable working with. We will design a variety of small, quick thumbnail compositions before moving on to working on a larger piece on location on the second class meeting day. A variety of drawing or painting materials will be provided or bring what you love to use.

Monster Parade
I don't always offer autumn courses in digital techniques, but this year I just wanted to design some monsters!
Using Photoshop we will create new, never seen before creatures out of a variety of photos and simple painting techniques. Use your imagination and curiosity to combine various existing creatures and things into an endless parade of new and unique Monsters. Students will learn to use simple tools in Photoshop to simplify and process various types of images into unified collage base pieces. We will make selections, transform pieces, and merge them together into one unified layer before adding a little bit of highlight and even color.
